This course aims to impart basic experimental and study skills to students study basic sciences as well as agriculture related fields. This course also provides a sound foundation in organic chemistry that would cover conformational structures, stereoisomeric relationships, properties and reactions of aliphatic hydrocarbons, alcohols and ethers, including stereochemistry of substitution and elimination reactions
 Zoology (CGA117)
This course is offered to students pursuing a two-year Certificate in General Agriculture in the first semester of their first year of study. This course provides an introduction to the classification, relationships, structure, and function of major animal phyla. Emphasis is on levels of organization, reproduction and development, comparative systems, and a survey of selected phyla. A good understanding of general zoology is very useful in several fields of the life sciences including agriculture, agriculture education, food science, nutrition and conservation. Zoology is the branch of biology that is related to the animal kingdom covering the structure, physiology, evolution, classification and distribution of all animals.
 Botany (CGA112)
The course is offered to students pursuing a two-year Certificate in General Agriculture in first semester of their first year of study. This course provides an introduction to the classification, relationships, structure, and function of plants. It also covers reproduction and development of seed and non-seed plants, levels of organization, form and function of systems. A good understanding of general botany is very useful in several fields of the life sciences including agriculture, agriculture education, food science, nutrition and conservation. Modern botany is a broad, multidisciplinary subject with inputs from most other areas of science and technology. Areas of interest include the study of plant structure, growth and differentiation, reproduction, biochemistry and primary metabolism, chemical products, development, diseases, evolutionary relationships, systematics, and plant taxonomy. Traditionally, botany has also included the study of fungi and algae.
 Advanced Mathematics (BSC111)
The course is offered to students pursuing a three-year Diploma in General Agriculture in first semester of their first year of study. The course is designed to provide foundation Mathematics to all programs in the first-year students. The course serves as a foundation course in Mathematics to enable students’ purse studies in Pure and Applied Sciences at college and university level. This course will help develop the essential mathematical skills which are vital tools for any scientific study, research and industrial application.
