The department offers a range of academic programs designed to prepare students for diverse career in agriculture, business and rural development. The courses include:
 Introduction to Computer Applications (CGA115)
The course is offered to students pursuing a two-year Certificate in General Agriculture in the first semester in their first year of study. The course aims at introducing students to principles, theories and practices in basic computer Skills. Zambia College of Agriculture conducts several courses in Agriculture and related fields. This programme require that students employ appropriate computer skills in order to maximize their benefits from the various courses they are pursuing.
 Introduction to Agricultural Economics (CGA114)
The course is offered to students pursuing a two-year Certificate in General Agriculture in the first semester of their first year of study. This is an introductory course on the basic economic concepts. This includes concepts of scarcity and choice, demand and supply, production theory. It also includes some macroeconomic concepts such measurement of national output, inflation, and unemployment. The course focus on equipping students with basic principles of economics and to introduce the learners to economic concepts in order to understand resource use in a farm business, and how the farm business fits in the economy.
 Rural sociology (CGA126)
The course is offered to students pursing a two-year Certificate in General Agriculture in the second semester of their first year of study. Rural Sociology is a course in which learners are required through andragogy to gain knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to approach and treat rural people as well as to be aware of the relevance and importance of cross cutting issues such as gender, HIV/AIDS and climate change. The course focus is to equip students with knowledge and skills of various facets of rural society and the dynamics of human interactions among individuals, group, community and the society.
 Farm Management I (CGA122)
The course is offered to students pursuing a two-year Certificate in General Agriculture in the second semester of their first year of study. This course is designed to provide students with economic concepts that can be applied to management decisions using farm situations, and to develop skills in planning and budgeting, business financial analysis, and investment analysis. The course focus to introduce the learners to the management function and practice of planning as it relates to the farm business.
 Farm management II (CGA216)
The course is offered to students pursuing a two-year Certificate in General Agriculture in the first semester of their second year of study.  Agricultural Extension (CGA211)
The course is offered to students pursuing a two-year Certificate in General Agriculture in the first semester of their second year of study. Agriculture Extension is a critical pillar in dissemination of agricultural technologies. Training in agriculture is at the core of producing the kind of human resource needed in agriculture. The course is meant to equip students with knowledge, skills and attitudes in various extension concepts, techniques and strategies that are essential for effective delivery and facilitation of agricultural innovations. Agricultural extension emphasizes on andragogy for application in working with farmer communities. The course focus on equipping students with knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to facilitate agricultural extension programmes and related activities.
 Entrepreneurship (CGA223)
The course is offered to students pursuing a two-year Certificate in General Agriculture in the second semester of their second year of study. The course equips students with knowledge and skills needed to develop entrepreneurial mind set through a well-designed learning experience.
 Human Food & Nutrition (CGA226)
The course is offered to students pursuing a two-year Certificate in General Agriculture in the second year of their second year of study. The course develops students to understand the importance of food utilization in relation to human health promotion and how food systems impact on household food security.
 Computer and Communication Skills (AGE111)
The course is offered to students pursuing a three-year Diploma in General Agriculture in the first semester of their first year of study. The course is designed to provide students with basic knowledge of computers and communication skills. The course serves as a foundation course in computers to enable students’ purse studies in computer studies at college and university level. This course will help develop the essential communication skills which are vital tools for any study, research and industrial application.
 Human Nutrition & Public Health (HFN112)
The course is offered to students pursuing a three-year Diploma in General Agriculture in the second semester of their first year of study. The course previews the nutrients in foods with special emphasis on foods found in Zambia, food utilization by the body, digestion, absorption and metabolism of nutrients in humans. The course also covers a topic on water and electrolyte balance

The course is offered to students pursuing a three-year Diploma in general Agriculture in the first semester of their second year of study. The course provides students with the basic knowledge in economic principles so that they are able to interpret them in the agricultural sector. Students are taught to use resources efficiently and choose the optimal level of production in order to maximise profit.
 Farm Accounts (ABM241)
The course is offered to students pursuing a three-year Diploma in General Agriculture in first semester of their second year of study. Farm Accounts deals with the recording and processing of farm business transactions. The main use of this information is to assess the performance of the farm business through the use of final accounts. The course is designed to offer book-keeping skills, as well as knowledge on the preparation and interpretation of final accounts. The focus of the course is to equip students with skills to prepare and interpret farm accounting information with the view to assess the financial performance of the farm business.
 Principles of Management (ABM232)
The course is offered to students pursuing a three-year Diploma in General Agriculture in the second semester of their second year of study. The course provides students with basic knowledge and skills in the management of agricultural organization.
 Food Science & Technology (HFN222)
The course is offered to students pursuing a three-year Diploma in General Agriculture in the second semester of their second year of study. The course gives the student an understanding of food handling and processing, food utilization techniques and principles of food preservation, food packaging and storage, microbiology and food poisoning. This knowledge will help the student understand concepts involved in food handling, processing and preservation.
 Farm Management (ABM351)
The course is offered to students pursing a three-year Diploma in General Agriculture in the first semester in their third year of study. The course is designed to provide students with economic concepts that can be applied to management decisions using farm situations, and to develop skills in planning and budgeting, business financial analysis, and investment analysis. The course focus to introduce the learners to the management function and practice of planning as it relates to the farm business.
 Agricultural Marketing & Cooperatives (ABM362)
The course is offered to students pursuing a three-year Diploma in General Agriculture in the second semester of their third year of study. The course helps students understand marketing, the process through which organizations analyse, plan, implement, and control programs to develop and maintain beneficial exchanges with target buyers. It also aims at introducing students to cooperative business models with emphasis on formation, values and principles, and governance of cooperatives. This course covers two areas – marketing which focuses on products, pricing, promotion, and distribution i.e. the 4 Ps of marketing, as well as cooperatives which focuses on the cooperative business mode (others being sole proprietorship, partnerships, and corporations).
 Project Management (ABM382)
The course is offered to students pursuing a three-year Diploma in General Agriculture in the second semester of their third year of study. The course focus to equip students with the knowledge of fundamental principles of managing projects with clear emphasis on the project cycle.
