About ZCA Monze

Zambia College of Agriculture – Monze [ZCA] is a Government Agricultural Training Institution offering Agricultural training to both In-service and Pre-service students. The College falls under the Ministry of Agriculture.

The college is located in Monze District, 190 kilometers south of Lusaka and 5 kilometers to the east of Monze town.

Zambia College of Agriculture, Monze was opened in 1948 as Monze Agricultural Training School [MATS] and then administered by the Director of African Agriculture. The school was producing African Agricultural Assistants who would go out in the field advising African Farmers, particularly the subsistence ones, on issues of agriculture. At that time the Monze Agricultural Training School was enrolling students at standard six [6] level.

In 1965, the school was transformed into a college called the Zambia Agriculture School, enrolling students at Form II level. The College was operating strictly as an In-Service Institution. The students were recruited through the District Agricultural Offices and these [students] were serving in the field as Commodity Demonstrators [CDs].

In 1969, the courses offered at the College were up-graded to the current level where Grade 12 School leavers are recruited directly from Secondary schools. On completion of the course in two years, the graduating students are awarded a Certificate in General Agriculture. There were absorbed by the department of Agriculture, where they served as Agricultural Assistants [AAs].

In 2008 the College introduced a Diploma in General Agriculture to cater mainly for In-service staff who already had a Certificate in General Agriculture. This programme first started as a two-year programme affiliated to the University of Zambia-School of Agricultural Science and was in 2011 extended to cater for school leavers and became a three-year programme.

In the same year 2011, the College started offering the Diploma programme on a Distance Learning basis to cater mainly for serving staff in the Ministry of Agriculture as well as the private sector e.g. Zambia Sugar Plc. The Blended Distance Diploma programme is a 3 ½ year programme with two residential sessions per year.
